  • IBAB's research lines bridge biological curation with industrial application through four strategic axes. In Strain Improvement, we develop more robust non-GMO strains via random mutagenesis for the food industry (e.g., ProFuture). In Seaweed Domestication, we focus on the genotypic and phenotypic validation of novel marine species, ensuring certified seed stocks for aquaculture (e.g., INTEGRATE). For Scale-up Optimisation, we develop protocols that reduce industrial downtime by connecting the biobank directly to bioreactors, and we develop contaminant-control strategies (e.g., ALGAESOLUTIONS). Finally, in Biorefinery and Bioactive Screening, we provide traceable biomass for the bioprospection of nutraceuticals and anti-inflammatory compounds within European consortia (e.g., Algae4IBD, REALM, XTREMOLIFE). IBAB acts as the biological and technological engine of the blue bioeconomy.
