Gene bank Ex is the largest collection of fungi from extreme environments in the world. Ex currently contains 18.760 fungal strains, 6.600 bacterial strains, 56 strains of archea and 6 strains of algae The strains originate from hypersaline environments worldwide (salterns, saline lakes, salt mines), from extremely cold environments (Arctics, Antarctica, high altitudes), deep sea (down to 6000 m), hot deserts (Africa, Asia, South America), from nutrient-poor environments (e.g. rocks in both warm and cold climates), and from extreme indoor environments (house appliances) and tap water. An important part of activities is related to sequencing of genomes of extremophilic fungi (more than 500 genomes), population genomics omic analyses, and data dissemination. Kind regards,
