Member holdingsThe BCCM TM/IHEM public collection holds over 16000 strains of filamentous and yeast-like fungi. The collection represents over 400 genera and 1300 species of Ascomycetes, Basidiomycetes and Zygomycetes of biomedical-environmental interest, e.g. human and animal pathogens, allergenic and mycotoxin producing fungi. Important subcollections, gathered in the frame of various epidemiological studies are available such as: Aspergillus fumigatus, Candida spp. isolated from human invasive diseases, dermatophytes, Scedosporium spp., Crytococcus neoformans, etc. The collection houses the entire R. Vanbreuseghem collection of the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITG).
Services offered
  • Distribution of biological material
  • Deposits of strains for public access, safe keeping or as patent deposit
  • Identification, freeze drying, typing, antifungal susceptibility testing,...
  • Morphology, taxonomy and nomenclature of filamentous fungi and yeasts (human-animal pathogens, outdoor and indoor airborne fungal flora)
  • MALDI-TOF MS for identification of Fungi
  • Screening of fungal strains for new molecules of economic interest
  • Protein fingerprinting and enzymatic activities
  • Typing of fungal pathogens by DNA fingerprinting
  • Phylogenetic studies of filamentous fungi and yeasts by DNA sequencing
Quality Management SystemControl of viability, identity, puritry and control of bacterial purity are accreditated according to the ISO/IEC 17025 standard. ISO/IEC 17025 for antifungal susceptibility testing. For accession, control, preservation, storage and supply of biological material the ISO 9001:2008 certification has been obtained.
