Member holdings The NBIMCC was established in 1983 and it is successor of the Bulgarian type Culture Collection (BTCC), founded in 1950.

 The NBIMCC has been recognized as an "International Depository Authority" (IDA) by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

 The NBIMCC maintains over 8 000 strains including bacteria, actinomycetes, plasmid bearing microorganisms, yeasts, fungi,  animal and plant viruses, and animal cell cultures. They belong to more than 550 species from 204 genera. The collection preserves strains useful for training, research, diagnostic and industrial activities, as well as original isolates for "Genofond Bulgaria".

  • Isolation and taxonomic investigations of bacteria, streptomycetes, yeasts, fungi and plant viruses, where the main interest is directed to Bulgarian isolates
