Member holdings

Group(s) of biological resources stored in the collection: bacteria, bacterial genomic DNA.

  • The CIRM-BIA host more than 4,000 strains of bacteria related to fermented foods and bio-preservation which are as diverse as possible (291 species, 69 genera). These numbers are growing constantly through targeted collection from various biotopes.
  • The strains are selected in order to offer the greatest possible diversity, from both the taxonomic and functional points of view, so as to ensure their usefulness to the scientific and industrial communities.
  • Services offered

CIRM-BIA mainly offers its biological resources and technical expertise (in the form of services) relative to the molecular and phenotypic identification, characterization and preservation of strains, the screening of specific functionalities, lyophilisation or the secure-deposit of strains of interest.

    Research

  • Research activities structured around 3 axes:
  • i) genetic and phenotypic characterization (screening of antibacterial activities of bioremediation, probiotics, production of aromatic compounds, EPS,…)
  • ii) methodological development (improvement of identification, characterization and preservation methods
  • iii) culturomics on various microbiomes (fermented foods, animal feces, plants and seeds, environmental samples…)
  • Quality Management System

    ISO 9001 certification since 2007
